On Monday, an official launch ceremony for the US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council took place in Washington. The event was attended by the council's co-chairs — Head of the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva and US Special Representative for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor. This structure is aimed at strengthening business ties between the two countries, with its activities purportedly based on the political will of the presidents of Uzbekistan and the US.
Saida Mirziyoyeva stated in a message on her Telegram channel: "This structure will undoubtedly become an effective platform serving to further strengthen business ties between Uzbekistan and the United States. This is being built on the firm political will of our countries' presidents." She added that the council's establishment was facilitated by a high level of trust between the two nations' presidents and noted that, as allegedly emphasized by Sergio Gor, the US has practically confirmed its efforts to strengthen strategic partnership in Central Asia over the past year.
Sergio Gor, on his X social media page, characterized the council's launch as "the high point of incredible achievements in the partnership over the last few months thanks to commercial diplomacy." He also claimed that since November, when President Trump hosted C5+1 leaders in Washington, Uzbekistan has signed contracts with American companies worth hundreds of millions of dollars, indicating initial outcomes of this initiative.
The agreement to establish the council was reached during the visit of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the US on November 4-6, 2023. The main goals of the structure are listed as expanding and strengthening mutually beneficial trade-investment and commercial ties between Uzbekistan and the US, as well as improving the business environment and supporting entrepreneurial activities. In February, it was reported that the first meeting of the council was held with the participation of Saida Mirziyoyeva and Sergio Gor.
