An explosion and fire occurred at a liquefied gas filling station for vehicles in the Oqtom neighborhood of Denov district, Surkhandarya region, on the morning of April 7. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the incident was reported after a call to the 112 system at 08:24. The fire resulted from an explosion that happened during the refueling of a tank with propane from a specialized "KamAZ" vehicle.
Five rescue units arrived at the scene at 08:39, and through swift action, the fire was contained by 08:42 and fully extinguished by 10:10. Rescuers managed to quickly bring the situation under control, helping to prevent a larger-scale disaster.
As a result of the fire, two citizens sustained minor burn injuries. MES reports indicate that one person suffered burns covering 10% of their body, while the other had burns on 3-4%, but their health is not at risk, and their condition is stable. No fatalities have been reported, highlighting the limited nature of the incident without human casualties.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the explosion may have been a disruption in the technological process during the discharge of propane from the specialized vehicle. Officials from the regional MES, Denov district police department, health and sanitation department, as well as leadership and staff from "Hududgazta'minot," have been dispatched to the site. They are conducting an investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This incident has once again underscored the importance of strict adherence to safety measures when handling hazardous materials in the Surkhandarya region. Authorities have acknowledged the need for additional measures to prevent such incidents, which may lead to increased focus on infrastructure and technological standards in the area.
