A court in the Tashkent region has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 16 years in prison for the brutal murder of a 30-year-old rival over jealousy. The incident occurred in the Zangiata district, where the defendant stabbed the victim 17 times.

During the trial, the defendant claimed he was in a religious marriage with a 42-year-old shop employee and had a child with her, which his mother was unaware of. Despite expressing remorse, the victim's family demanded the harshest punishment.

The court found him guilty under Article 97, Part 2, Clause 'g' of the Criminal Code (premeditated murder with extreme cruelty) and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.

Earlier, a court in the Dangara district of the Fergana region sentenced a 29-year-old man to 18 years in a general-regime colony for the particularly cruel murder of his own mother.
