US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have commenced talks in Beijing as part of a two-day state visit by the American leader to China. One of the key topics of the meeting is expected to be trade and economic cooperation.

Upon arrival in the Chinese capital, the leaders reviewed a military parade and then proceeded to the Great Hall of the People, where they made initial statements to the press and began negotiations.

Trump stated that he and the Chinese leader have developed good working relations despite previous disagreements. "We get along well, we had difficulties, but we overcame them. If we had problems, we solved them very quickly. I called you, and you called me. I tell everyone that you are a great leader," the US president said.

Xi Jinping in response emphasized the special significance of the meeting. "The whole world is watching our meeting. Changes unseen in a century are happening faster across the globe, and the international situation remains unstable," the Chinese leader noted.

During the welcoming ceremony, Trump expressed confidence that relations between Washington and Beijing could become "better than ever before," while Xi stressed that China and the US should be partners, not rivals.

The US president arrived in China for a two-day state visit, the first by a sitting American leader since 2017. The trip comes amid ongoing tensions between the world's two largest economies after several years of trade confrontation.

Accompanying Trump to Beijing is a high-level delegation including senior US administration officials and heads of major American companies, such as Elon Musk and Tim Cook.

One of the central topics of the talks will be the extension of the trade truce reached in October 2025 at the APEC summit in Busan, South Korea. Additionally, the sides may discuss a new package of economic agreements, including expanded US agricultural exports, increased American energy exports, and a potential major contract for the delivery of several hundred Boeing aircraft to China.
