Many Uzbek citizens are reluctant to keep money on bank cards, fearing automatic deductions for loan repayments. Starting April 15, a new rule has taken effect: after automatic debiting, Uzcard cards must retain a non-reducible balance of 3 BRV (1.236 million soums).

The Uzcard payment system has introduced a minimum non-reducible balance for automatic (unauthorized) debits from bank cards. As of April 15, 2025, when funds are automatically deducted from Uzcard cards to cover loans, installments, and other obligations, the card balance will not be zeroed out. At least 3 BRV (1 million 236 thousand soums) must remain on the account. Automatic debits will only be applied to amounts exceeding this threshold.

However, the rule does not apply if the client themselves provided card details and confirmed the payment with a one-time code (OTP). In such cases, funds may be fully debited.

According to the Telegram channel "Bank va mijoz," a similar procedure is expected to be introduced by the Humo payment system. Since April 1, Uzbekistan has banned cash sales of fuel and alcohol. A Kun.uz report from Fergana revealed that many people avoid keeping money on cards precisely due to fear of automatic loan deductions.
