The Sanitary-Epidemiological Committee of Uzbekistan has reported a slight increase in meningococcal infections in 2026.

In the first quarter of 2026, 174 cases were registered, of which 168 were children under 14 years old. In April, a 14% decrease compared to March was observed.

To prevent the spread of the infection, 8,024 doses of vaccine were purchased, and 4,862 people who had contact with patients were vaccinated.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, most often caused by bacteria or viruses. It is dangerous due to its rapid development.

The committee recommends vaccination as one of the most effective ways to protect against meningococcal infection.
