Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury, but the Spanish international is expected to be fit for the 2026 World Cup, the club confirmed on Thursday.

The 18-year-old left the pitch in tears after scoring the only goal from the penalty spot in Wednesday's La Liga win over Celta Vigo. Medical tests revealed a tear in the biceps femoris muscle of his left leg.

“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup,” Barcelona said in a statement on X.

Spain begin their World Cup campaign on June 15 in Atlanta, Georgia, against Cape Verde in Group H. It will be Yamal's debut at the tournament.

Barcelona lead Real Madrid by nine points in La Liga, but the two sides meet in El Clásico at Camp Nou on May 10. Six league games remain in the season.
