According to the latest 2025 research by the International Labour Organization (ILO), Uzbekistan has ranked 114th out of 187 countries worldwide in terms of employment rate. The republic's employment level is 55 percent, indicating that slightly over half of the working-age population is engaged in economic activity.
The employment rate is a key indicator of labor market conditions, reflecting the proportion of working citizens among the population aged 15 and above. The ILO calculates this data based on information from national statistical services.
ILO experts note that Uzbekistan's figures may be linked not only to unemployment but also to a high share of people not participating in the economy, such as students, homemakers, and those employed in the informal sector.
Among CIS countries, Kazakhstan leads with an employment rate of 67 percent, placing 29th in the global ranking. Belarus holds the 67th position with 61 percent, Russia is 73rd with 60 percent, while Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are ranked 111th and 175th, respectively.
