Israeli attacks across Lebanon have killed at least 19 people despite a US-brokered ceasefire now in its third week, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
An attack on the town of al-Saksakieh in the southern Sidon district killed seven people, including a child, and wounded 15, among them three children. Other attacks killed a Syrian man and his daughter in Nabatieh, three in Nahrain, three in Saadiyat, three in Haboush, and one in Mefdoun.
Since April 16, Israeli forces have killed nearly 500 people, raising the overall death toll since March 2 to more than 2,750. The Israeli army also issued new forced displacement orders for several towns and continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon, preventing the return of hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto reported from Tyre that there were no signs of a ceasefire on the ground as the death toll kept rising. Lebanese state media reported additional air attacks on several towns.
The US announced it would mediate a second round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon on May 14-15, despite Lebanese demands that Israeli strikes cease before any talks. The talks aim to advance “a comprehensive peace and security agreement.”
Hezbollah, excluded from the talks, continued attacks on Israeli positions, launching artillery and drone strikes. The Israeli army said several explosive drones entered Israeli territory, with some detonating and wounding three soldiers.
