Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been briefed on the reasons behind public transport issues, with one of the main causes being driver overtime work that negatively affects service quality, reports Podrobno.uz correspondent.
According to the presidential press service, last year alone, the capital received 1,670 complaints from residents regarding driver behavior and service. Additionally, 109 traffic accidents involving buses were recorded.
During a presentation on further improving the public transport system in the regions and accelerating work in this direction, it was proposed to increase the number of drivers per bus from two to three. Plans also include strengthening safety measures and improving service culture.
It was noted that dispatch centers are currently operating in every region, ensuring 90% of trips are strictly on schedule. The introduction of artificial intelligence could reduce the cost of transporting one passenger by 10–15%.
Due to urbanization, traffic intensity at city entrances has increased by 30%. It was proposed to shift urban transport to a unified agglomeration system. Plans include organizing 19 such routes in the capital and 79 in regional centers. Tashkent also aims to introduce convenient tariffs such as "electric train – bus" and "electric train – metro."
An additional 1,500 buses are needed for the regions. Entrepreneurs may have their exemption from recycling fees on bus imports extended for another two years.
