The central apparatus of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Defense is set to create a Main Directorate of Digital Technologies, a Department of Artificial Intelligence Technologies, and a Cybersecurity Laboratory. This was announced on May 7 during a presentation attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
To implement a unified digital policy in the defense sector, the position of Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity has been introduced. In military districts, similar deputy positions for commanders are planned.
The presentation proposed comprehensive measures to further develop automated control systems, expand the use of robotic and autonomous complexes, and launch research and development projects.
It was noted that new units for combat drone operations and counter-drone warfare have been established in the armed forces. A training system for drone operators, engineers, and robotics specialists has been put in place.
In response to modern threats, the Ministry of Defense has set up an Information Security Monitoring Center aimed at timely detection and prevention of cyber threats.
In 2025, all higher military educational institutions were granted institute status, a unified vertical management system was created, and the University of Military Security and Defense was established.
Under a new model for military personnel training, cadets will receive in-depth instruction in foreign languages, information technology, and artificial intelligence. For command staff officers, a three-level training system based on advanced foreign experience and study of modern armed conflicts is being introduced for the first time.
The scope of sergeant training is also being expanded. A key innovation is the introduction of distance learning for sergeants in six civilian bachelor's specialties at higher military educational institutions. Furthermore, the training system for aviation and unmanned aerial vehicle specialists will be improved, with a unified certification procedure for Armed Forces personnel in this field.
