In Samarkand, as part of a global forum on combating drug threats, significant international meetings took place at a high level. Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva held talks with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) Secretary Stefano Berterame.
The central topic of the discussion with the WHO head was deepening cooperation in the healthcare sector. The parties paid special attention to reforms of Uzbekistan's medical system, the development of digital medicine, and the improvement of pharmaceutical market regulation. In the context of the forum's theme, strengthening partnership in the field of narcological treatment and rehabilitation, as well as expanding regional interaction under the auspices of the WHO, were discussed as separate agenda items.
The negotiations with Stefano Berterame were equally significant. Saida Mirziyoyeva emphasized that for Uzbekistan, which is actively improving its national system for controlling drug trafficking, international expert assessment is critically important. The sides discussed in detail issues related to developing analytical and laboratory infrastructure, implementing digital monitoring tools, and training specialized personnel.
During the meeting, practical aspects of the upcoming visit of an INCB mission to Uzbekistan were considered. It is expected that international experts will evaluate the measures being taken and help integrate the best global practices into national legislation. Direct dialogue with the leaders of such authoritative organizations confirms Uzbekistan's status as an active participant in the global security and healthcare system.
