In Tashkent, Uzbekistan, officers from the Department for Ensuring Security at Transport and Tourism Facilities under the Ministry of Internal Affairs have thwarted an attempt to sell a batch of marijuana, as part of large-scale preventive measures. During operational activities, a 59-year-old native of the Samarkand region was caught red-handed while trying to sell homemade narcotics for two million sum.
The arrest occurred at the moment of handing over packets containing light-yellow crushed substance and green marijuana to a conditional buyer. Both bundles had a characteristic sharp odor, confirming their narcotic nature. According to the department, this incident is part of efforts to prevent the spread of prohibited substances in the country, highlighting ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking.
During the inquiry, the detainee admitted to having independently prepared the narcotic substances and planning to gain material benefit from their sale. All discovered substances were seized as material evidence, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the need for continued vigilance by authorities.
A criminal case has been initiated against the citizen under Article 273 (“Illegal manufacture, acquisition, storage, and other actions with narcotic substances for the purpose of sale”). Preliminary investigative actions are currently underway, which may lead to further details or accomplices being uncovered.
