In the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan, a company has been ordered to pay a fine of 1.302 billion Uzbek sum (approximately $104,000 USD) after a two-year court case for illegally cutting down 154 valuable trees. The violation was initially detected in 2024 during a raid conducted by the regional Department of Ecology and Climate Change.

The incident occurred during earthworks along the Jondor canal in the Alat district, where the company's manager authorized the felling of the trees. Environmental specialists assessed the damage to nature at 1.3 billion sum, and the case materials were subsequently forwarded to the inter-district economic court in Bukhara for legal proceedings.

Over the following two years, the court conducted hearings on the matter. Ultimately, the court fully upheld the claim filed by the environmental authority and mandated the defendant to compensate the full amount of the inflicted damage.

This case highlights ongoing environmental challenges in Uzbekistan. A similar large-scale destruction of greenery was recently recorded in Yangiyul, Tashkent region, where the environmental damage also exceeded one billion sum, indicating a pattern of ecological violations in the country.
