The transition to exclusively cashless payments at gas stations in Uzbekistan has led to a significant increase in recorded revenue. According to data from the Central Bank, in the first days of April when the new rules took effect, the volume of receipts through banking instruments showed a sharp positive dynamic. If the average daily revenue in March was 102.6 billion soums, by April 2 this indicator had reached 152.6 billion soums, indicating that a substantial portion of turnover has moved out of the shadow sector.
The main driver of growth was traditional bank cards, which accounted for approximately 90% of all transactions, or 138.6 billion soums per day. Simultaneously, explosive interest in alternative payment methods was recorded: the volume of payments through "moment cards" more than doubled, reaching 3.6 billion soums. QR payments are also popular, with 7.7 billion soums processed through them on April 2, confirming car owners' readiness to use mobile applications in the absence of cash payments.
The regulator notes that this market transformation is accompanied by active implementation of bank loyalty programs and cashback offers. The complete abandonment of cash acceptance at gas stations has not only increased official revenue indicators but also stimulated the development of digital payment instruments. In case of questions regarding card or online service operations, citizens are advised to contact their banks' support services, which are currently operating in enhanced mode to ensure uninterrupted payments on the roads.
