A sharp surge in fuel prices has been recorded on the Uzbek Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange. Following trading on April 6, the price of AI-92 automobile gasoline increased by 3.4%, reaching a new absolute record of 13.46 million soums per ton. Since the beginning of the current month, this type of fuel has risen in price by more than 5.7%, amounting to 727 thousand soums in monetary terms.
Despite the update of the price maximum, the volume of gasoline sold increased only slightly—from 1,146 to 1,399 tons. However, the most critical situation developed in the diesel fuel segment. In just two trading days, its cost soared by 17.5%: the price rose from 13.78 million to 16.17 million soums per ton.
The rapid increase in diesel prices was accompanied by a sharp reduction in supply on the exchange platform. If more than 12.4 thousand tons of fuel were sold on April 2, by April 3 the trading volume had fallen to 3.8 thousand tons. By April 6, sales had decreased to 2.7 thousand tons, indicating an emerging shortage of available volumes against the backdrop of growing price expectations among market participants.
