Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. Rustam Assakalov, head coach of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team, has been recognized as the best coach on the Asian continent by UWW Asia 2025. This accolade from the international wrestling community highlights Assakalov's coaching prowess and his achievements in leading the national team.

Under Assakalov's guidance, the Uzbekistan team has demonstrated consistent success on the international stage, strengthening the country's position in the global sports community. He has developed a training system that enables Uzbek wrestlers to compete confidently with the strongest opponents in the region and worldwide.

It is worth recalling that in February 2026, the Uzbekistan national team performed successfully at the Zagreb Open international tournament, winning one gold, four silver, and one bronze medal. Based on the competition results, the team secured second place in the overall team standings, trailing only the Iranian national team.

Additionally, 19-year-old wrestler Aytjon Khalmakhanov was declared the winner in the "Most Dominant Wrestler of the Year" category by UWW for 2025. Last year, he achieved a historic milestone by becoming the world champion among adults and breaking a record that had stood for 24 years.
