️ President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has called on Uzbekistan's largest importers of medicinal drugs to establish local production within the country. This appeal was made during a meeting detailed by the leader's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov, and aims to develop the republic's pharmaceutical industry and reduce dependency on imports.

️ The meeting clarified that half of all medicine imports into Uzbekistan come from just 34 foreign manufacturers, with their products supplied by only three major companies. These companies hold exclusive rights to import products from over 40 international brands, raising concerns about market monopolization.

️ President Mirziyoyev urged these distributors to demonstrate social responsibility and set an example for others by organizing drug production in Uzbekistan with the involvement of foreign partners. He also emphasized the need to incentivize overseas pharmaceutical companies to open their own facilities in the republic.

️ To stimulate this, the tax on brand usage payments—royalties—will be reduced from 20% to 5% when importing brands, as Asadov quoted the president's words. This measure is designed to attract local manufacturing and lower import costs.

️ Previously, it was reported that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will allocate 20 million euros to support pharmaceutical production in Uzbekistan. The funds will be directed towards modernizing and expanding the capacities of two pharmaceutical companies, which is expected to increase the share of domestically produced drugs in the internal market.
