Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced a positive two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, seen as a move to counter US assertions of a divided leadership in the Islamic Republic.

Pezeshkian described an atmosphere of 'trust, calm, solidarity, and direct dialogue,' marking what is believed to be his first audience with Khamenei since the latter succeeded his father two months ago.

US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have promoted the narrative of fractures within Iran's leadership, urging Tehran to make 'the sensible choice.' Rubio previously called Iranian leaders 'insane in the brain.'

Iranian officials deny these claims, stating that Pezeshkian and IRGC commanders make decisions jointly. Reports of the president's resignation were dismissed as 'fake news.'

Analysts say the military and security apparatus, particularly the IRGC, has strengthened its influence over strategic decisions, especially regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which is seen as a key deterrent.

Iran continues diplomatic engagement with the US via intermediaries but refuses a deal amounting to capitulation. The foreign minister has maintained close ties with China and Russia.

The US and Israel demand a full halt to Iran's uranium enrichment. Experts predict Iran may make temporary compromises but will not completely abandon enrichment, while the US naval blockade pressures both Iran and regional allies.
