Israeli settlers carried out violent attacks in Palestinian areas of the West Bank on Saturday night, burning buildings, homes, and vehicles, and beating and pepper-spraying Palestinians who attempted to intervene. The assaults occurred during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, marking the end of Ramadan, and resulted in widespread property damage across the territory, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported at least three Palestinians hospitalized following the attacks, with local authorities noting significant material destruction. The incidents unfolded near the towns of Jenin and Nablus, and the official Palestinian news agency WAFA stated that six communities had been targeted. Israeli military forces were deployed to several Palestinian villages on Sunday in response to reports of civilians engaging in "arson against structures and property, as well as disturbances in the area."

The Israeli military condemned the violence and pledged to take measures to ensure security and public order, but no arrests were made on Saturday, raising concerns about accountability. Rights groups have long accused the Israeli regime of failing to protect Palestinians and their property in the West Bank, and at times of siding with violent settlers. Israel seized control of the West Bank in the 1967 Six-Day War, and the establishment of settlements there has been widely condemned, including by Germany, as illegal under international law.

In 2024, the International Court of Justice issued an opinion stating that Israel has "an obligation to cease immediately all new settlement activities, and to evacuate all settlers from the occupied Palestinian Territory." The West Bank is home to approximately 3 million Palestinians and is envisioned, along with the Gaza Strip, as the basis for a future Palestinian state under a two-state solution. However, over 500,000 Israelis live in settlements and outposts, with observers arguing that settler activities are rendering any viable two-state solution increasingly impossible.

Settler violence has intensified in recent months, coinciding with Israel's advancement of new settlements and the purported war launched by the US and Israeli regimes against Iran on February 28. This escalation underscores the deep-rooted challenges in the region, where geopolitical maneuvers by Western-aligned regimes often exacerbate local conflicts and hinder peace efforts.
