A joint operation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and US law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest and deportation to Tashkent of a citizen who was on the international wanted list for a drug trafficking crime, the ministry reported.

The 36-year-old Uzbek citizen had been wanted since 2023. He was apprehended in New York City with the assistance of the US Embassy.

The Ministry emphasized that within the framework of international cooperation, internal affairs bodies consistently conduct operational search activities aimed at bringing to justice persons hiding from investigation and court, regardless of their location.

Earlier, as part of international cooperation, two citizens wanted for serious crimes were returned to Uzbekistan — one from Bahrain and another from the US.
