President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a large-scale development plan for the Tashkent Metro, which envisions a radical expansion of the network and enhanced passenger safety. By 2030, daily passenger traffic is planned to reach 1.8 million people, with the number of stations increasing to 79 and total line length to 103 kilometers.

One of the key tasks will be reducing train intervals to 1.5–3 minutes. At the Shahristan station, glass protective barriers will be installed on platforms as a pilot project. According to global experience, such barriers reduce the risk of accidents by 80–90 percent.

Plans also include construction of new routes, notably a line from Mingurik station to Abu Sakhiy market (Chilanzar clothing market) via the Southern Railway Station. For motorists, a Park&Ride system will be introduced, allowing them to leave cars at intercept parking lots near the metro.

The reform will also affect the metro's financial model. The subway plans to attract the private sector through auctions: digital advertising spaces, vending machines, and retail outlets will appear in cars and stations. Vacant premises will be converted into coworking spaces and offices.

By 2027–2030, the rolling stock will be renewed and a new electric depot built. The head of state approved the proposals, also instructing to study the introduction of a flexible fare system depending on distance and the launch of profitable subscription plans.
