On April 24, the Criminal Court of Uzbekistan district began hearing a criminal case against Anvarjon Otakhodjayev, the former mayor of Namangan city, and other individuals detained on suspicion of bribery. The Fergana regional courts reported this.

A total of six defendants, all male, are involved in the case. Three of them have been placed in custody, while the remaining three are under a written undertaking not to leave the area and to behave appropriately.

According to the indictment, the defendants are accused of committing crimes under relevant articles of the Criminal Code.

It should be recalled that in September 2025, the State Security Service reported the arrest of Anvarjon Otakhodjayev. According to investigators, the mayor conspired with the head of a footwear manufacturing LLC to promise an entrepreneur assistance in obtaining the right to build an apartment building on a 35-are plot within the city. In exchange, they demanded $60,000.

Otakhodjayev was appointed mayor of Namangan city in December 2023. He was born in 1972 in Namangan. He holds a higher education degree, having graduated from the Namangan Engineering-Economics Institute in 1994 and 2002, and the Academy of Public Administration under the President in 2011.
