Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. Doctors at the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care (RSCEMC) in Uzbekistan performed a highly complex and unique operation, saving the life of five-year-old Umarjon Abdurazzoqov. The boy's condition became critical due to complications arising from a surgical procedure conducted at a foreign clinic.
The incident occurred a year ago when the child accidentally ingested caustic soda, leading to severe chemical burns and scar-induced narrowing of the esophagus. Initially, specialists at the RSCEMC inserted a special tube into the stomach to ensure nutrition, but the parents decided to continue their son's treatment abroad.
The overseas surgery failed to deliver the expected results and worsened the situation—foreign surgeons lifted the stomach upward, connecting it to the remnant of the esophagus. It was soon discovered that the transplant began exerting pressure on the heart, posing a direct threat to the child's life. In critical condition, the boy was urgently returned to Tashkent.
A team of Uzbek doctors, led by Professor Habibulla Aqilov, conducted the intervention, which lasted nearly five hours. During the operation, performed for the first time in Uzbekistan, the medical team returned the stomach to its anatomical position and formed a new esophagus from a segment of the patient's colon.
Currently, Umarjon is feeling well, and his condition has stabilized. It is expected that the boy will be discharged home in the coming days.
