Uzbekistan is planning a radical change in the rules for registering information structures on buildings, ceasing to equate signs with company names to advertising objects.
The initiative was announced on May 5 at a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where ways to solve pressing business problems were discussed.
The impetus for the changes came from mass complaints by entrepreneurs about forced dismantling of signs, which caused significant losses and hindered the recognition of retail outlets.
The current procedure often classifies signs bearing the company name, type of activity, or trademark as advertising, requiring owners to obtain special "passports" and make additional payments. This administrative burden negatively impacts customer flow and overall revenue.
Therefore, it is proposed to no longer classify information about the name and type of activity on building facades as advertising, and to completely abolish the practice of issuing corresponding passports. Instead, new design requirements for the appearance of information signs will be introduced gradually and only with the input of market participants. Additionally, rules for placing trademarks on vehicles owned by legal entities are set to be significantly simplified.
