A massive project has been launched in Namangan, Uzbekistan, aiming to plant 150 million flowers in a single month, potentially setting a Guinness World Record. The initiative coincides with the 65th International Flower Festival.
The ceremonial start took place in the city center with officials, community members, youth, and foreign guests in attendance. Deputy regional governor Botir Nuritdinov stated that the project is aimed not only at beautification but also at boosting tourism and improving the region's ecology.
Representatives from Guinness World Records are monitoring the process. Kanzi Defrawi, the organization's representative in the UAE, was present at the ceremony and emphasized that all stages will be documented according to international standards.
Namangan has significantly expanded its greening efforts in recent years: in 2018, about 4.5 million flowers were planted, while this year over 150 million seedlings of 120 species are planned.
The 65th International Flower Festival will run from May 24 to July 12, featuring over 150 events, including exhibitions, concerts, and international forums.
Organizers believe that the record-breaking planting will not only attempt to set a world record but also strengthen Namangan's image and increase the region's attractiveness to tourists and investors.
Last year's festival opening saw over 200 cars decorated with live flowers drive more than 10 kilometers from the international airport to Babur Park.
