At least five people were killed and more than 30 injured in a massive fire at the Plaza Las Palmas shopping mall in Los Mochis, Sinaloa state, Mexico. The blaze broke out around 2:00 PM local time on May 7.

According to emergency services, the fire engulfed a large part of the building, causing structural collapses in several sections. Firefighters and rescue teams evacuated dozens of visitors and employees from the complex.

Victims with burns of varying severity and smoke inhalation were taken to local public and private hospitals. Several injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Roy Navarrete Cuevas, director of the State Civil Protection, stated that the fire was largely brought under control thanks to coordinated efforts. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated in the kitchen of a Ley supermarket, then quickly spread through finishing materials.

Forensic examination may be prolonged due to the building's condition and the need to identify the deceased.
