Uzbekistan is tightening penalties for traffic violators as the new penalty point system yields its first results. According to Zoir Yuldoshev, head of the press service of the Traffic Safety Department (YHXX), documents for 49 drivers who accumulated more than 12 penalty points have been submitted to judicial authorities for legal action.
In total, 132 drivers have exceeded the threshold of eight points. These figures mark the initial outcomes since the implementation of the new penalty point system.
Starting June 1, 2025, penalty points began to be applied based on protocols issued by traffic patrol officers under 12 articles of the Code of Administrative Liability. From April 1, 2026, points will also be added for four types of violations detected by automatic cameras: running a red light, violating stopping and parking rules, driving into oncoming traffic, and speeding.
When a driver reaches eight points, they receive a warning via SMS. Exceeding 12 points results in the revocation of driving privileges through a court order. To regain their license, drivers must retake training at a driving school and pass exams.
