President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the head of Azerbaijan's SOCAR company Rovshan Najaf, as well as the leadership of British Petroleum, Ariel Flores and Giovanni Cristofoli.

The meeting discussed expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with these leading companies, which are among the top players in the energy and oil-and-gas sectors.

The President noted successful cooperation in the energy sector. SOCAR is Uzbekistan's partner in the project to develop hydrocarbon fields on the Ustyurt plateau. A decision was made to open a SOCAR representative office in Uzbekistan.

The joining of British Petroleum to this large-scale project was highly appreciated. The importance of advancing joint projects in the oil and gas sector, exploration, production and deep processing of hydrocarbons, establishing long-term supplies of oil and petroleum products, as well as training industry personnel was emphasized.

Additionally, Rovshan Najaf, who also serves as chairman of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, thanked the country's leader for assistance in joint preparations for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
