Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindorov, who secured an early victory in the Candidates Tournament on Tuesday, has begun preparations for the World Chess Championship match against reigning champion Dommaraju Gukesh of India. Sindorov predicted the contest would be intense, admitting it will be his most difficult test yet.
The grandmaster stated: "I didn't want to think too much about it, but I will have a match at the end of this year, and I believe it will be very tough. Gukesh already has experience in world championship matches. But I have a strong team, all the necessary resources to work with, and I will try to use my chances."
Reflecting on his early win in the Candidates Tournament, Sindorov noted that the tournament was very long and each round was extremely challenging. He added: "I even slept poorly in recent days. But now I am very happy to have finished this tournament so successfully, and thanks to everyone — my family, my coach, my seconds, all who supported me."
Sindorov recalled that his path to the top began with victory at the 2022 Chess Olympiad as part of the Uzbek national team, followed by individual success at the 2025 World Cup, and now triumph in the Candidates cycle. He emphasized: "There remains one more goal — the most important one."
Speaking about the final round of the Candidates Tournament scheduled for Wednesday, Sindorov remarked that the tournament situation will no longer exert psychological pressure on his game against China's Wei Yi. His attention will also be focused on the concurrently held Women's Candidates Tournament, which will determine the opponent for world champion Ju Wenjun of China, and he expressed support for Kazakh chess player Bibisara Assaubayeva, who continues to compete in the women's event.
