Uzbekistan's cotton harvest in 2024 reached 3.5 million tons, marking an 8% increase compared to the previous year. According to the State Statistics Committee, this figure reflects the steady development of the country's agricultural sector.
In cotton production, the Andijan, Fergana, and Syrdarya regions took leading positions, accounting for over 60% of the total yield. Experts attribute this outcome to favorable climatic conditions and the use of modern irrigation technologies.
The government is implementing measures to diversify the cotton industry and add value. Agriculture Minister O‘tkir Sultonov stated: "Cotton remains a vital sector of our economy, but we are developing it not just as a raw material, but through textile production to create additional value."
However, some analysts highlight challenges such as dependence on cotton monoculture and limited water resources. There is discussion about the need to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and diversify exports in the future.
