The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan has announced the results of the 2024 cotton harvest. According to state statistics, 3.5 million tons of cotton were collected nationwide, representing a 5% increase compared to the previous year. However, this figure falls short of the government’s initial forecasts, as drought and issues in irrigation systems have limited crop yields.
A ministry representative stated: “We have achieved certain successes in the cotton harvest, but challenges such as climate change and outdated irrigation methods still exist. The government is developing plans to introduce new technologies and provide additional financial assistance to farmers to address these issues.”
Experts emphasize that the need to modernize Uzbekistan’s cotton industry is growing. The country still relies on traditional methods and inefficient use of water resources, leading to environmental problems. Additionally, cotton export revenues remain uncertain due to volatility in global market prices.
While agricultural reforms are ongoing, farmers continue to face difficulties in accessing credit and infrastructure problems. The government’s new programs, including the “Green Cotton” project, aim to promote sustainable agriculture, but implementation is progressing slowly.
