The heads of water and energy agencies from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan signed a trilateral protocol in Tashkent, agreeing on the volumes and schedules of water supply from the Toktogul reservoir for the next two months, according to a Podrobno.uz correspondent.

As reported by the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy, the key issue was ensuring sufficient water supply to the southern regions during the growing season. Adherence to the water release schedules from the Toktogul hydropower plant is expected to reduce risks for the agricultural sector at the start of the irrigation season.

The parties agreed to continue coordinating actions until the end of the agricultural season. The next meeting is scheduled for mid-June in Bishkek, where final schedules and volumes for July, August, and September will be agreed upon.

Inter-seasonal cooperation played an important role in preparing for the summer season. From September 2025 to April 2026, Kazakhstan supplied over 1.56 billion kWh of electricity to Kyrgyzstan's power system. This allowed the preservation of water resources in the Toktogul reservoir during winter for agricultural use in summer.

Earlier, Uzbekistan's government approved a procedure for compensating part of the costs of implementing water-saving technologies in agriculture.
