President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a videoconference meeting to address critical issues in the potato planting campaign. He noted that the situation is most severe in the Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions, where planting plans were only 41% and 44% fulfilled, respectively.

The immediate result was a sharp rise in retail potato prices: in March alone, prices jumped 12.4% in Surkhandarya and 9% in Kashkadarya. The president stressed that the government had allocated all necessary funds to stabilize the market.

"I repeat: money is available, resources are available. There should be no problems with meat and potatoes," Mirziyoyev said. He also criticized districts specializing in potato farming, including Khodjaabad, Andijan, Kasansay, Chartak, Chust, Yangikurgan, Tashlak, and Fergana, for unsatisfactory performance.

The president placed personal responsibility on deputy governors for agriculture and the heads of these districts for their sluggishness. The immediate task is to complete the sowing campaign as quickly as possible to ensure food security.

Local authorities will now prioritize price control for staple goods and filling the domestic market. Negligence in this area will result in personal accountability for officials.
