On May 13, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received SOCAR CEO Rovshan Najaf and British Petroleum representatives Ariel Flores and Giovanni Cristofolini during the Uzbekistan Energy Week 2026 forum, according to the presidential press service.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in the energy and oil-gas sectors, implementing joint projects, and deepening investment cooperation.

The parties noted the successful development of energy cooperation. SOCAR is participating as Uzbekistan's partner in a project to develop hydrocarbon fields on the Ustyurt Plateau. It was announced that the company has decided to open a representative office in Uzbekistan.

The inclusion of British Petroleum in this major project was highly appreciated.

The talks emphasized the importance of advancing joint initiatives in hydrocarbon exploration, extraction, deep processing, long-term oil and oil product supplies, and training qualified personnel for the sector.

Additionally, Rovshan Najaf, who also serves as chairman of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, expressed gratitude to the head of state for assistance in preparations for the 2027 U-20 World Cup in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

Earlier, it was reported that BP had joined a production sharing agreement for developing oil and gas blocks on the Ustyurt Plateau in Karakalpakstan. The project is being implemented jointly with Uzbekneftegaz and Azerbaijan's SOCAR.
