The price of diesel fuel has sharply increased on Uzbekistan's commodity exchange. During trading on April 3, the price per ton rose by 15.2%, reaching 15.9 million sum. In subsequent trading on April 6, the price increased by another 2%, reaching 16.2 million sum. This is nearly 24% higher than the same period last year, highlighting significant inflationary pressures in the energy sector.

According to data from the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, 249,000 tons of diesel fuel were produced in the country in the first quarter of 2026, which is 54.5% more than the previous year. Production in March alone amounted to 113,300 tons.

The Customs Committee reported that 35,800 tons of diesel were imported in March, one and a half times more than last year. Despite this increase in imports, prices continued to climb, suggesting underlying supply chain or market inefficiencies that are driving costs upward.

Diesel fuel serves as the "lifeblood" for an economy heavily reliant on agriculture and manufacturing. The sharp rise in its price is likely to trigger a chain reaction across other industries, potentially leading to broader economic challenges, including increased production costs and higher consumer prices, which could strain the national economy.
