Originally named Famous Players Film Company, the studio was founded in 1912 by Adolph Zukor. In 1916, it merged with Lasky and Paramount, later becoming known as Paramount Pictures.

Today, it is part of the Paramount Skydance (formerly Paramount Global) media conglomerate, which includes CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and BET channels, as well as Paramount+ and Pluto TV services.
