Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy has announced the start of construction of several large-scale energy projects in cooperation with the UAE's AMEA Power. The projects were launched on May 13 as part of the 'Uzbekistan Energy Week — 2026'.

Specifically, in the Mirzo Ulugbek district of Tashkent, construction began on an energy storage system with a capacity of 150 MW (300 MWh). The project cost is estimated at $86.1 million. Additionally, in the Gijduvan district of Bukhara region, another energy storage station with a capacity of 200 MW (800 MWh) is planned, with a total cost of $200 million.

In the Kungrad district of Karakalpakstan, a wind power plant with a capacity of 1000 MW and a 40 km power transmission line are being built. The project cost is estimated at $1.06 billion.

According to the Ministry of Energy, these projects are expected to further strengthen the country's energy infrastructure, expand the use of renewable energy sources, and improve energy supply stability.

'Uzbekistan's energy development strategy until 2035 envisions creating a wholesale electricity market, transferring part of the networks to private operators, and introducing RAB tariffs,' said BCG partner Igor Alekseev in October 2025. Energy consumption is expected to rise to 123 billion kWh, and generation to 34 GW.

Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev stated at the Asian Development Bank meeting in Samarkand that Uzbekistan, which was an electricity importer a few years ago, now exports it to Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan. According to him, the country is becoming a 'reliable producer,' transit corridor, and regional integrator of energy systems.
